School Picture Day Reminder & Other Friday News - 9/11/15

Click here to watch the video of Grade 8 student, Jordan S' appearance on Fox & Friends this morning talking with other children born on this date about how they feel about their historically significant birthdate.  It is inspiring that all these children view the date of their birth as significant in their lives and as a reason to continue to provide the world with examples of hope and service.
We also recognize Thomas H. in Grade 6 for the inspirational words he shared with the 9/11 Day organization's campaign of remembrance on Facebook. During our afternoon assembly to sing the National Anthem, Thomas shared his thoughts with the student body. Thomas' good deed was a visit to the Simsbury Fire and Police Stations to thank them for their service. It is a blessing in our school community to have such tangible reminders that "hope was born that day, too".

SMS gathered to sing the National Anthem in remembrance of 9/11.

Bus Transportation Reminder - On Monday, 9/14, Simsbury PUBLIC schools will be closed for Rosh Hashanah but St. Mary's School is open for a regular, full day of school. Since the public schools are closed, our afternoon buses may be able to arrive to pick up students more promptly than usual and bus students may arrive home significantly earlier than usual (as much as 20-25 minutes early). On Friday, 9/18, Simsbury PUBLIC schools have an early closing for professional development but St. Mary's School has a regular full day. This is another day when buses may bring students home significantly earlier than usual. Please be sure you are home to greet your students or have discussed with them what to do in the event that you are not at home when they arrive.

Lifetouch Photography will take individual student photos for students in grades PreKindergarten, Kindergarten - Grade 7 on Monday, 9/14/15.

A photo will be taken of each student in these grades even if no portrait package is ordered.  This photo is used for our school yearbook.

Students in PreKindergarten, Kindergarten - Grade 7 may wear business casual clothing appropriate for school on Monday, 9/14.

Portrait package order forms were sent home with each student in these grades on Friday, 9/4/15.  Extra order forms are available in the school office.  This year, you may also place your portrait package order online at mylifetouch.com.  Our Picture Day ID is EJ495165Q0 (last digit is zero not the letter "o"). If ordering using the paper form, please be sure to enclose exact payment.

If you forget to place an online order and/or forget to send in your order form and payment, a photo will still be taken of your child(ren).  You may then take the following steps to arrange for a photo package -

·         Within the 48 hour window, parents go to mylifetouch.com to place their order from the image taken. Picture ID number is:  EJ495165Q0

·         After the 48 hour window, parents can mail the order envelope to Lifetouch, 698 Derby Ave., Seymour, CT 06483 with an additional $7.50 for s/h and the package will be ordered and shipped directly to the parent’s home address.

·         Students can be re-photographed on absentee/retake day for the background and package that the parent wants.  They simply bring the order envelope back on absentee day.

Group class photos and absentee/retake photos will be taken on a date to be determined in November.

Students in 8th grade will have their individual photos and group class photo taken by Paul Cryan Photography on Friday, 9/18.  Mrs. Gillen will provide students with guidelines regarding dress for these photos.

Everyone forgets something once in a while and often, it's to bring lunch!  We have limited supplies for these "emergency times" and will never allow a child to go without something to eat.  Last year, we did find that this became very costly because many students need an "emergency lunch" on many occasions.  This year, we are being proactive in order to remain within our budgetary constraints.  When a student forgets their lunch, we will be requesting $4 reimbursement for the meal we provide. Please just keep the policy in mind should a lunch be needed in the future since you will receive an email from Mrs. Budnick if reimbursement is required.

Please be aware that our lunch program is run on a "break even" basis with the school incurring no profit on the food sold or served.  In order to continue to provide both hot lunch and emergency lunches, we must not run a deficit.  Thank you for your understanding.
